SHENZHEN — Huawei has taken an unexpected turn in the smartphone race, unveiling a device that deliberately breaks from the foldable wide-screen trend it helped pioneer. The Pura X View, introduced on an unspecified date in 2026, is the first non-foldable wide smartphone of the year, a move that positions the Chinese giant against the very form factor it has been pushing with its own Pura X Max and Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8. The announcement landed after seventeen days of speculation following Huawei’s initial teaser.

A Wider Screen Without the Fold
The Pura X View’s defining feature is its 16:9.5 aspect ratio, squeezed into a body with display bezels of just 1.09mm and a screen-to-body ratio of 96.1%. The 6.39-inch panel runs at 2232 × 1320 resolution, with max brightness hitting 6500 nits and 2160Hz PWM dimming for eye comfort. Huawei claims the wider form factor delivers greater usable content area than 6.9-inch flagship smartphones despite the smaller diagonal.
The company points to improved ergonomics for consuming images, books, documents, movies, shows, and games. Powering the device is Huawei’s Kirin 9030s, an 8-core chipset built on a 5nm process.
The triple-rear camera system carries XMAGE branding and incorporates a second-generation Red Maple Multispectral Sensor for enhanced color accuracy. A 50MP f/2.4 front-facing camera handles selfies. Both front and rear cameras can shoot up to 4K or 1080p at 960/120fps respectively.
Battery and Build in a Slim Package
The Pura X View houses a 7000mAh battery within a super slender 6.68mm chassis, with total weight at 201 grams. Charging options include 66W SuperCharge wired and 50W wireless SuperCharge. Durability ratings cover both IP68 and IP69 for water and dust resistance.
Four colorways are available: Illusion Dark Night, Zero-degree White, Leap Shadow Red, and Linen Ash.
China-First Launch, Global Question Mark
Pre-orders are currently open in China across three configurations. Pricing and specific configuration details were not disclosed. There is no word on international availability, leaving open the possibility that Huawei might eventually bring the device to global markets.
The Pura X View enters a crowded competitive landscape. Apple’s foldable, dubbed the ‘iPhone Ultra’, is expected to be announced in less than a month from publication.
Huawei itself has been active on multiple fronts — the Mate XT 2 tri-fold launched with a Kirin 9050 Pro chipset, while the Pura 90s Series recently opened pre-orders with exclusive freebies. For broader Asian markets, the absence of confirmed global availability is the immediate watchpoint. Huawei’s ability to push hardware innovation remains clear; whether that innovation reaches consumers outside China is the unresolved question.
