Historic Unified Welterweight Triumph
On March 7, 2025, Welsh boxer Lauren Price secured the unified WBA, WBC, IBF, IBO and Ring female welterweight championships, marking a milestone in her career. The victory capped a journey that began in the amateur ranks and has taken her across continents and disciplines. By claiming all five major belts, Price became the first woman from Wales to hold the undisputed welterweight crown.
Amateur Foundations
Price’s amateur career started with a bronze medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games while representing Wales, making her the first Welsh woman ever to earn a boxing medal at that event. She returned four years later to capture gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, again wearing the Welsh colours. In 2019 she added World Championships gold, followed shortly by a European Games gold competing for Great Britain, and then claimed Olympic gold at the postponed 2020 Summer Games. During this span she simultaneously held the Olympic, World, European Games and Commonwealth titles in the middleweight division from 2019 through 2021.
Continental Consistency and Honours
Although Price never won the senior European championship, she collected three bronze medals in that competition over the years. Her amateur record is further strengthened by a series of regional and national honours that highlight her consistency across various weight classes and tournaments. These achievements laid a solid foundation for her later move into the professional arena.
Professional Breakthrough
Transitioning to the paid ranks, Price became the first British woman to win a professional welterweight belt when she seized the title on May 6, 2023. She defended that strap until she vacated it to pursue the unified world championship she attained in March 2025. Observers noted the smooth shift from amateur to professional, crediting her relentless work ethic and technical precision as key factors in her seamless progression.
Athletic Versatility and Future Prospects
Beyond boxing, Price has demonstrated athletic versatility by playing football at a competitive level, although specifics of her football career are not detailed in the record. That background in another sport is cited as part of the foundation that has supported her boxing achievements. Looking ahead, the unified title holder faces a future filled with potential challengers and opportunities to defend her newly acquired belts. Fans and commentators alike anticipate her next bouts, curious to see how she will navigate the evolving landscape of women’s welterweight boxing. With a résumé that already spans Olympic, world, continental and Commonwealth honours, as well as a historic professional breakthrough, Lauren Price remains a prominent figure to watch as she charts the next phase of her career.
